What should the average electricity consumption be for a 4 bedroom house?

We are a family of 4 living in a four bed house. We pay £50 per month for electricity and £50 per month for gas. I do turn off lights and use energy efficient bulbs. We are with Powergen for both. But I think the companies are all roughly the same.

They do like to hike up the monthly payments don’t they – but then they really are reluctant to bring them down once you’ve paid off the outstanding amounts.
I used to pay £55 per month for both my gas AND electricity combined in my 4 bedroomed house.
However, it depends on things like whether you’re out during the day at work, how many times a week you do the washing, put the dishwasher on etc.
now that I have 2 kids and work from home it’s a different story – I now pay £115 per month for the two bills combined.
The gas is a huge proportion of that though when I look at my bills.
By the way, I’m with scottish power on their dual fuel tarriff which I’ve personally found to be the cheapest around.
I pay about £60 per month – depends on how many people in your house – when my sons were at home they always had their lights, TVs computers on etc. The company will always over estimate your payment and then reimburse you at the end of the year if you have overpaid – if it is considerbly higher than it should be you need to log your meter readings every month and then get back to them to reduce it sooner.

I have a 4 bed, wife and x2 kids.. heating and lights are always on…
our bill to EDF is around £55 by direct debit. over the years thisbreaks even so this should be a good guide.
We have chnaged our fridge/freezer/washing machine to AAA rating and all but 2 lights have low energy bulbs.. but we do leave sky on standby and the TV’s etc..
perhaps this may be useful. try switching everything off at the fuse panel to see if you think you have a fault, if the metere still turns, something isnt right, it stops then its over to you!
